At 81,000 square feet, we have a pretty big foot print in Bucks County but as small of a carbon footprint as possible.
Here at Fisher’s Tudor House we have a deep commitment to the environment. Several years ago we started installing solar panels on our enormous roof. Today we have almost 900 and generate between 60 and 100% of our own electricity from the sun. We conserve electricity aggressively. We have an energy monitoring system that regulates our demand. We do not air-condition or heat empty rooms. As each piece of equipment is upgraded we purchase the most energy-efficient model available.
We use fluorescent lights and compact fluorescents where ever possible.. We have replaced all of our old fluorescent T12 lighting with energy-efficient T5 bulbs with electronic Ballasts. This will provide more light while it will save substantial amounts of energy. Additionally, T5 bulbs use a fraction of the mercury that the old bulbs used. Unnecessary fixtures were removed entirely. The Parking garage lighting has been converted to all CFL (compact fluorescent lighting). These two steps alone will save 56,000 kilowatts of Electricity per year
We conserve natural gas; cooking appliances are turned off when not in use and two huge water heaters along with two 1000 gallon hot water storage tanks were replaced by demand water heaters. Demand water heaters conserve in two ways. First the demand units are close to where the hot water is needed. Hot water does not have to travel throughout the building. Two, it makes the hot water only when (and only as much) as is needed. We also switched from high temperature dishwashers to more efficient low temperature dishwashers.
We recycle tons of glass, plastic, cardboard, cans, and cooking oil each year.
