You can say we’ve done our share of weddings over the years at Fisher’s Tudor House. And with weddings come bridal showers, bachelorette parties and then even baby showers to follow.

We’ve also seen trends come and go. You might even call us experts on what’s hot for now. And right now, it’s: CANDY BARS. No, not the Hershey’s Candy Bar you’re imagining. We’re talking about a full-service bar serving not alcohol, but CANDY!

The idea is not to eliminate alcohol but to take the place of the favors. The candy bar or candy station is set up typically mirroring the colors of the bridal party or wedding theme. A variety of candy is placed in several pretty and unique candy jars which are sometimes decorated with ribbon or other décor. Then, favor bags are placed on the table in addition to spoons and scoopers used to fill each bag. Stickers saying “Thank You” or which include the bride and groom’s names and date of the event are often used to secure the candy bag.

Either during cocktail hour or before departure, guests take turns filling up their bags with candy and then have a useful and delicious treat to take home in memory of the special day. Popular at showers and weddings, this is a unique way to save money and time on putting together favors and is a great way to incorporate the theme colors of the wedding into the room. So fun! Fisher’s Super Sweet 16 Birthday Parties

You only turn 16 once and you want it to be SUPER and SWEET. You don’t need reality show cameras following your entourage to have the spotlight on YOU at Fisher’s Tudor House. If you’re the one planning the party, don’t fear. We have the food, we have the cake, and we even have the dance floor. Now take notes.

Your daughter or son’s Sweet 16 can be held in a hall, banquet room OR it can be in a spectacular night club atmosphere with an enormous dance floor, a 16,000 watt sound system, and club lights. We don’t like to brag but the atmosphere at Club Seasons creates a scene unlike any other. The sky ceiling will have your guests’ eyes wide open and the gleaming white columns might just have their hearts a little envious. The sound of the eight foot fountain in the background is the cherry on top to a party that will be the talk of the town.

Your evening includes a custom-decorated all butter pound cake with vanilla buttercream icing, table linens, linen napkins, a soda bar, the dance floor, the 16,000 watt sound system and the full club lights (with the use of a Fisher’s DJ). Guests will be on their feet to the sounds of the latest hits or the birthday girl or boy can customize their own playlist to set the mood. Looking forward to the weekend? We are too. And in the Lounge at Fisher’s Tudor House, you’ll get exactly what you’ve been waiting for: good food, good drinks, and good people. So what exactly goes into making the perfect LOUNGE area at a restaurant? Well, we’re not afraid to share our secrets

Let’s start with the food. A good bar or lounge does not simply have just a dinner menu. Of course, you can ALWAYS order off of our Restaurant Menu in our Lounge, but we don’t stop there. We offer a perfect Pub Menu to satisfy your cravings for some good weekend food. We’re talking about Chicken Quesadillas, A 12 inch flour tortilla stuffed with your choice of sautéed chicken, seasoned beef or seafood (shrimp, crab, or calamari) with peppers and onions, and tossed in Cajun seasoning, covered with pepper jack cheese and grilled, served with sour cream & salsa. Let’s talk drinks. What would any Lounge be without a perfect selection of beer, wine, and liquor? A Wedding to Remember at Fisher’s Tudor House

I think we can all agree that wedding planning is stressful. From choosing your Maid of Honor to deciding where to place Great Uncle Bob on the seating chart, it’s the little details that can make you into that frightening Bridezilla. But after all is said and done, will it be these tiny details that you will remember?

Sure, something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue is important. But the only something you’ll hold close to your heart are those delicate vows that he so carefully said to you as he looked into your eyes. And those tears your father had as you danced your last dance as his little girl.

So true are these words for bride and groom Emily and Justin as they said their vows on March 3, 2012 in the Regency Ceremony room at Fisher’s Bucks County Wedding Reception Venue. Their night was full of romance and shared with family and friends who danced along to the beat of their favorite songs. There was a beautiful cake and gourmet food and drink enjoyed by the loving guests who showed their appreciation for Justin and Emily’s love.

And well, we could tell you what we think they’ll remember from their evening of bliss.

Throw a Bridal Shower at Fisher’s Tudor House!

SPRING has sprung at FISHER’S TUDOR HOUSE and that means that WEDDING SEASON is soon approaching. Turns out, you’re a bridesmaid for not ONE but TWO weddings! Major freak out? Relax. At Fisher’s Tudor House, we make it fun and painless for you to host the bride-to-be on her special day. We have everything you need to throw a FAB bridal shower. And that’s exactly what it will be.

VENUE? CHECK! We can host you in the Garden, Sanctuary, Pavilion, or Vineyard rooms (minimum 35 to a private room). And if your guest list is quite large—we have the Regency room. We can still accommodate you if you have under 35 guests. Fisher’s Tudor House hosts bridal showers on Sundays from either 12 PM to 4 PM or 1 PM to 5 PM. We are firm believers in Sundays as great shower days because most invitees can attend vs. Saturdays—the busiest day of the weekend.

FOOD? CHECK! For the menu, you get to choose two entrées from our Banquet Luncheon menu. Each entrée is served with a mixed garden salad or Soup Du Jour and two vegetables. Ice cream is served for dessert. If you’re having 60 guests or more, you may benefit from our Luncheon Buffet menu.

BRIDAL SHOWER BINGO – Make a set of bingo cards with 25 empty spaces. Fill in the spaces with names of presents the bride may be getting instead of numbers (nightgown, blender, necklace, gift certificate, bubble bath, etc). You will need to make one bingo card for each guest playing, and make sure the gifts are randomly shuffled on each card. As the bride opens her presents the guests can tick off the present on their bingo cards if they have it. The guest who gets a complete line filled in and has bingo first, wins.
DRESS THE BRIDE – You need at least 8-10 guests for this bridal shower game. The more the merrier. Divide the guests into teams of three or more and make as many teams as possible. Give each group 2 rolls of toilet paper. Instruct them to choose a “bride” from amongst their team and make her a bridal dress or wedding gown – using ONLY the toilet paper! Depending on the group you can make it a timed event (no more than 10 minutes), or just wait until each team is finished. After the “brides” are dressed let them model their gowns to the Wedding March so that the real bride can choose a winner. You will be surprised how interactive even the shyest of guests will be when they are trying to help their team make a better “dress” to win.
LUCKY PENNY – This game is the perfect door prize game, and usually a nice surprise for the winner. Take a penny and tape it under one of the chairs your guests will be using. Don’t let on about the penny until after all the guests have arrived and are seated. Then ask your guests to look under their seats. The guest who finds the lucky penny taped to their chair wins a prize! For a more personal touch you could use a small photo of the bride, or of the couple, to tape under the chair. For a themed event, use an item to match the theme such as a flower for a garden party or shell for a beach themed shower. Just make sure that you can’t see the item taped under the chair until they are looking for it or some of your guests might catch on.

Chocolate rose - Tie each rose with the colors the bride is using in her wedding party. Attach a name card to each rose or create a centerpiece with them.

Mini champagne, liqueur, or wine – Tie a ribbon around the neck with a note attached.
Small green plant – Soothing plants are the gift that keeps on living.
Picture frame of bride – Good for a small party of close friends and family. Include a picture of the bride and, maybe, the groom also.

Skincare and bath accessories – Get in the pampering spirit with aromatherapy massage bath oils, lotion, scented soap

The Story of Afrodite and Achilles

Each year we see many brides and grooms come celebrate their wedding with us and we have a blast. This past week, we had the opportunity to celebrate an engagement with guests of honor, Afrodite and Achilles. Their story was so wonderful, that we just had to share.

“Achilles is very romantic,” gushed his fiancé Afrodite as she shared with us their big moment last weekend at Fisher’s Tudor House.

Achilles took Afrodite to New York City to see the famous Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center. But he gave no hint to the fact that he would soon be bending down on one knee asking for her hand in marriage.

To not give it away, Achilles invited a friend with them to Manhattan, who would soon be tagged as their proposal photographer. Having a third party typically does not suggest “romantic getaway”. But boy was Afrodite wrong.

By the time their friend snapped a second photo of the two of them by the tree, Achilles was down on one knee with a diamond ring looking up at Afrodite asking her the biggest question of their life, “Will you marry me?”

Her answer led us to last weekend.

They celebrated her “Yes” and all that will follow at Fisher’s Tudor House.

If a baby’s in the works, there’s most likely a shower brewing as well. Well thank goodness for Fisher’s Tudor House. We happen to be experts at baby showers. Why? Well we have a few mothers in the business and they’ve shared with us their secrets for hosting the best baby showers.

First, let’s start with the venue. Think peaceful, happy, and serene. An environment MADE for a newborn. At Fisher’s Tudor House, you’ll get exactly that with hosting a baby shower in our Garden, Sanctuary, Pavilion, or Vineyard rooms (minimum 35 to a private room). TOP 5 BABY SHOWER GAMES (Via BabyShower101.com)

5. Guess the baby pictures: Ask for everyone’s pictures prior to the baby shower. Have all the pictures in a collage and make lines for people to fill in who they think the babies are out of the girls at the baby shower. If most women don’t know each other, just have the pictures of the mother, mother-in-law, sisters, and mommy-to-be. See how many people guess right. You can make copies of the baby picture collage to see how many can guess right!

4. Guess Mom’s Tummy Size: (Materials- String or yarn and scissors) Have each woman pull the yarn to the size they believe would fit perfectly around the Mother-To-Be’s center of her pregnant tummy. After everyone cuts their string, compare the results to the Mommy-To-Be’s actual tummy. Give a prize to the woman who is the most close! This is a baby shower favorite.

3. Baby Bingo: (Materials- Pens, Pre-Printed Bingo cards that use the numbers of how many people attend the baby shower) Prior to opening the baby shower gifts, number each gift on the box starting with one. If you know that 15 people will be attending your shower, pre-print bingo cards with numbers 1 through 15 and randomly place them on 15 cards. When the mommy-to-be’s decides to open the presents, she grabs the present she wants to open and reads the number out loud. As soon as someone receives bingo, they win the baby shower game and the baby shower prize.

2. Baby Scrambler: Another fun baby shower game is to choose around 25 baby related items and scramble the spelling. For instance, pacifier can be changed to reiifpca. Have the women unscramble the words. The one who gets the most right in 5 min receives a baby shower prize.

1. Guess the baby item: (Materials- any baby products and blindfold). A bag of baby items are placed in front of the mother-to-be for her to take one item out at a time blindfolded and tell her baby shower guests what item she has in her hands. This is really fun baby shower game when you choose some crazy baby toys or products.

Soft Shell Crabs: a delicacy from the sea

A favorite seafood delicacy is the soft shell crab. Soft shell crabs are eaten whole, ‘shell’ and all. The shell is quite pliable, and the meat inside is incredibly sweet, juicy, and bursting with pure crab flavor. Simple methods of cooking are often best: broiling, grilling, and especially, frying.

At Fisher’s Tudor House we serve JUMBO SOFT SHELL CRABS. Two are dipped in beaten eggs, lightly coated with Panko (Japanese-style breadcrumbs) and then deep fried to a golden brown. They are served with a mayonnaise, flavored with Old Bay seasoning and a hint of Dijon mustard. YUM!

Fisher’s knows a lot about soft shell crabs and are knowledgeable not only in preparing them but also where they came from. So here’s a little history. Soft shelled crabs grow to adulthood quickly in 12 to 18 months. A soft shell crab which is full-grown will measure 8 inches. A blue crab may shed (or molt) its hard outer shell 18 to 23 times during its life, which is about three years. When the crab backs out of its shell, it becomes a soft shell. Gradually the new shell develops and hardens during the course of the next 2 to 3 months.

When the body of the soft shell crab grows 30%, it loses its shell. The harvesting of the soft shell crab is done by professional crabbers. Next to the crab’s finlet, there is a faint line. An experienced crabber can tell from the color of this line when the crab will molt.

Once the soft shell crab has shed its shell, the live soft crabs are put into waxed boxes, till they are ready to be packaged. Then the soft shell crabs are sorted according to their size and placed in wax boxes which have damp seaweed. After that the soft crabs are ready to be shipped. The crabs are shipped with close attention to handling, as the crabs are affected by temperature changes and movement.
